Why did women back in the 40s & 50s speak so differently?

Women were expected to conduct themselves as ladies, not only by men but by other women. Cussing was very inappropriate and so was raising your voice, and fighting, manly behavior by a women was considered appalling, women were expected to act courteous, kind, honest, dignified and feminine at all times. Women did not talk about so openly and men had to earn a womans affection, not just buy her a drink in a bar. was considered a sacred practice and if a woman didn't conduct herseelf accordingly she was labeled as a , and if she were to have a child out of wedlock her child was labeled a and both were shunned by the majority. That was a time when the morals of the bible were still being taught in public schools and the majority of people still believed in God and attempted to uphold his standards. ;-)
